Make Do & Mend Evaluation
Throughout the course of this Make Do and Mend project I think that I have been able to develop my skills when it comes to this specific practical side of photography, For example collaging. I also think I have really improved when it comes to experimentation and improvisation. I feel that all of the artists we have researched have helped me to develop my skills when it comes to this area of photography, especially Kensuke Koike who uses fascinating techniques, as well as Maurizio Anzeri who innovatively uses thread and needles. I think both these artists have helped immensely with my creativity and ability to do a lot to an image with limited resources.
Make Do and Mend has really opened up this side of photography for me. I have always enjoyed photography, for example nature and urban photography, however I didn't like how generic some of my photos came out but now after researching and developing responses to all of these different artists I think I have developed a whole new style which has improved these previously generic images.
When we went back to school after the Covid lockdown I think I was ready to start developing my photography skills with the extra resources we had at school and improve my ability to create something with not many options. Although there were more ways for me to adapt and change my work at school than at home I still had to adapt and overcome challenges and work with what I had, for example not being able to use a digital camera like I normally would at home and having to use my phone camera which forced me to experiment with different angles.
Overall this project has immensely helped my creativity, innovation and ability to improvise therefore creating work with limited resources.
